YE Yang
savoured his first moments as a major champion after defeating Tiger Woods and admitted he had been mentally preparing for a final round with the world No.1 for a long time.

Yang hopes his breakthrough major victory can act as encouragement to young golfers all across Asia, just as Nick Faldo and Jack Nicklaus were to him.

South Korea's Yang completed a three-stroke victory over world No.1 Tiger Woods at Hazeltine National in Minnesota on Sunday to become the first Asian-born man to win one of golf's four major championships.

He did it aged 37 after having only taken up the game at the age of 19 when Faldo was at the peak of his powers, winning six majors.
